The coaches recognise that at this age, winning is important, but they place more emphasis on teamwork, building confidence, encouraging the players to reach their full potential and enjoying the sport. The coaches believe that through this, winning will be an inevitable result.
There is a strong team bond and the players (and coaches) have a good understanding of expectations both in training and in games. It is good to see the players encouraging and supporting each other. The majority of the team have been together since it was formed.
It is hoped that the squad are learning values that will remain with them, whatever sports they participate in and throughout their lives.
The club recognises that football is very much a community activity; with this in mind we try to achieve the highest standard of behavior and respect. It was therefore particularly pleasing that the team won the fair play award in the 2008/09 season.
Season Summary 2009/10
Martlesham Eagles A Team have turned a corner this season, after the previous seasons relegation, we only achieved 1 point in the first three games but the turning point came after a 2-0 win against Wickham in October. We then progressed onto a six game winning streak and were unbeaten for seven games Self belief and motivation proved to be the antidote to our previous disappointment.
Heavy snow and poor weather took the team out of their stride during the winter, but they finished strongly with their best performance of the season against Trimley with a 2-0 win on the last game of the season.
Martlesham A finished the season in fifth place in a very competitive division.
The B Team had a fantastic season and they showed great drive to finish as champions. They won some games easily, but what was most rewarding was the way they ground out other results, especially when they went behind. They only lost 2 games all season.
Both the A & B team progressed to the quarter finals of the cup, unfortunately both lost against the eventual winners of division one, neither of the teams were disgraced and showed the ability to compete.
We were very pleased with the teamwork they showed and the high level of commitment put in by every player
Once again the team has made significant progress in terms of technical awareness. Training has been a joy this season and the atmosphere in the squad is fantastic.
