Team History - Martlesham Mustangs
The Mustangs were formed at the start of the U7 season and since then the team quickly grew to a squad size of 18 boys.
Since switching to 11-a-side in the 07/08 Season, there have been 3 players move on due to relocation, other sporting
commitments and age dispensation.
These players will be missed and we hope they have as much enjoyment and achieve the success they have savoured with the
Mustangs. This now provides the club with an opportunity to recruit and strengthen the side and over the next few weeks, and
we shall be holding trials at our training sessions for players interested in fulfilling these roles.
The Mustangs' approach is to give all the boys equal opportunity to play and learn football, and we are proud to say that
so far we have since been able to cultivate their skills into a highly successful team.

Fair Play Award Winners 2006/07
Martlesham Mustangs won last season's Fair Play Award for U11 Division 1. We were given the most 'fair play' points by
opponents throughout the season based on the A team, B team, parents and managers. Pictured is the team with the trophy.

Division 1 (B) Champions
For the 2nd time in three years the Mustangs B side won the Division 1 B League Championship by a substantial margin to their
closest rivals and added this to last seasons runners up award. This highlights the strength and depth of the squad who
are now reaping the benefit since merging to an 11-a-side team

The Current Season
Since both sides have merged at 11-a-side, the team have had an encouraging start to the 07/08 season playing attractive
flowing football. Having played 5 games (4 league and 1 cup) they have scored an amazing 31 goals and proudly sit top of
division 1. The goals have not come from any one individual performance, but from players throughout the squad.

The Tours
Last season's crème de la crème saw the A team travel to Ayrshire, Scotland and play as representatives of England competing
in the Invitation Cup. The players did exceptionally well playing against teams who were permitted to field 11 and 12 year old
players. The team only marginally lost two of their eight matches and narrowly missed out on runner's spot up by one goal. This
was a very respectable performance supported by the fact that out of the 80 participating players, the 8 match officials placed
3 Mustang players in the top four to win the player of the tournament award. The worthy winner was in fact the Mustang's
Peter Mansfield with Mustang's Luke Boggis a worthy second. The players were excellent ambassadors for the team and country and
it was a pleasure to take them. Just to show that Mustangs can still fly, We are looking to head overseas in 2008 and have
received invitations from our colleagues in both Holland and Spain to join them for competitions. Perhaps we may look to import
some international players!!
