Season Summary 2009/10

Martlesham Mustangs U14's for the second season running have finished runners up in division one by the narrowest of margins.

The team needed to beat eventual league winners Trimley Red Devils 8-0 to lift the title and were 1-0 up away from home for the majority of the game. Sadly, Trimley scored an equaliser 2 minutes from time and the lads had to settle for second place for a further season.

The two teams met again in the league cup final with The Mustangs being 1-0 and 2-1 up until the last few minutes of normal time. Once again Trimley got the equaliser and went onto win 3-2 in the dying minutes of extra time.

It was a tremendous effort from the players who played the 100 minutes with only one substitute due to injuries and illnesses.

As a result of their efforts, the team were invited to play in the All Cities Elite Shield (Invitations only) which has selected 40 of the finest teams from around the country. This is an U15's tournament only and the organisers monitored leagues and teams throughout the season before making the invitations. This will take place on 1st August 2010 and is an honour for the team to be the only representatives of Suffolk in Leicester.

Four of the players also went onto play for the Suffolk Counties School side this season - Karl Wilkins (Captain) Josh Ives (Goal Keeper), Adam Davis (Centre Back) and Luke Boggis (Midfield).

Having lost three players at the end of this season 2009/2010, the squad have increased to 18 players with the addition of Jonathan Ives (Goalkeeper), Luke Howard (Midfield and Schools county player), Kurtis Wells (Midfield and Schools county player) and Damian Bagley (Striker).
